SoundMax sound cards include the technology needed to play back microphone input through the speakers in real time. If you use obsolete audio drivers, however, you will not be able to hear any microphone input without first recording it and playing it back. You must download and install an up-to-date driver, then configure Windows to play back your recordings through the speakers. Otherwise, the operating system automatically mutes the microphone to prevent it from disrupting your routine work.

Instructions
1 Download and install SoundMax audio driver 5.12.01.3620 (see Resources).

2 Click the Start button in the screens lower-left corner. Type Sound in the Start menus search box. Click Sound under the category Control Panel. The Sound window will open.

3 Click the Recording tab. Select your microphone from the list that appears and click Properties. The Microphone Properties window will open.

4 Click on the Listen tab. Click the check box next to Listen to this device.

5 Click OK.
