Computers have many functions built into them that you might not know about or even use. For example, computers can be used to download and store music from the Internet, burn albums onto a CD or record songs through a microphone. Before you can record songs onto your computer, you need to connect a microphone. Microphones are used to record music, and once connected to your computer, that music can be saved and replayed through your computer's speakers. 
Instructions
1 Choose a type of microphone to use on your computer. You can select a microphone that connects to the mic-in socket of your computer, or you can choose a microphone that connects to a USB port. USB microphones will produce higher quality sound but are more expensive.

2 Install the microphone if necessary. Some microphones will require you to install them before you can connect them to your computer. Insert the installation disc and follow the instructions for proper installation.

3 Plug the microphone into your computer once installed. The mic-in port is usually located on your desktop computer's tower or on the side of a laptop. The mic-in socket typically has a microphone icon next to it. Plug the microphone into any of your computer's USB ports if you have a USB microphone.

4 Turn on your microphone and adjust the volume to record music that can be played back on your computer through your media player.
