How to Record Vocals in Cubase With a Headset Microphone

Recording music in your own home has become so simple and inexpensive that nearly anyone with a computer can do it. This is never more true than in the case of recording vocals. Even a simple headset microphone--commonly used for gaming and video chatting--will get the job done.

Instructions
Enabling Your Headset Microphone

1 Ensure that your headset microphone is connected to your computer. Start the Cubase software.

2 Select the "Device Setup" option under the "Devices" menu. From the Device Setup window, click the "Control Panel" button. From the Control Panel window, ensure that under the list of inputs there is an X next to your headset microphone. Click "OK" in the Control Panel and Device Setup windows.

3 Select the "VST Connections" option under the "Devices" menu. Click the "Inputs" tab. In the "Device Port" column, select your headset microphone's left and right channels in the rows that correspond to left and right in the "Bus Name" column.

Recoding With Your Headset Microphone

4 Create a new project using an empty template, and select the location you wish to save your project to.

5 Under the "Project" menu, add a new audio track. Select "mono" above "configuration."

6 Click the record button and sing into your headset microphone.
