How to Use a USB Microphone on Cakewalk
Home recording studios can give you the ability to produce professional music from the comfort of your own desk. Setting up a USB microphone, especially a high-quality one, can open up a wide range of possibilities, from recording vocals to acoustic instruments. Your creative talent combined with the audio processing power of Cakewalk, which is software called a digital-audio workstation (DAW), may result in the next big YouTube music video hit.

Instructions
1 Plug in your USB microphone and install the necessary drivers. Windows Vista and 7 should automatically install the drivers for you.

2 Right click the Windows Volume Control icon and select "Recording Devices."

3 Look for your microphone in the list. Make sure the device is enabled. To do this, first right-click and select "Show Disabled Devices," then right-click the USB microphone and select "Enable."

4 Open Cakewalk and select the USB microphone from the Audio Options panel.

5 Test out your microphone by recording vocals. Play around with different levels/compressors to get the desired effect.
