BEST OF GERMAN BRANDS: Neumann – 'innovation based on tradition'

We're getting our Best of German Brands focus underway with an overview of Georg Neumann GmbH, one of the biggest names in studio mics.

Neumann, with its headquarters in Berlin, is known as one of the world’s leading manufacturers of microphones.

According to the company, which was established in 1928, it has a long track record of world-leading product designs, and has been recognised with a string of international awards for its technological innovations.

Since 2010, Neumann has been offering its expertise in electro-acoustic transducer technology to the studio monitoring market, and provides optimum solutions to its customers in TV and radio broadcasting, recording, and audio productions. Neumann is now an ideal partner for both the input and output of the audio signal path.

Neumann has manufacturing facilities in Germany (microphones) and Ireland (studio monitors), and is represented in most countries worldwide by Sennheiser subsidiaries, as well as by long-term trading partners. Georg Neumann GmbH is a Sennheiser Group company.

The focus of the Neumann booth at Prolight + Sound 2014 (Hall 8, stand A68) will be on the new TLM 107 studio microphone (pictured).

Combining "classic proportions with attractive styling and fresh ideas" – the TLM 107 is designed to embody the Neumann philosophy: 'innovation based on tradition'.

"Far from evoking vintage or retro nostalgia, the standard-setting TLM 107 represents an impressive, modern studio microphone. Its extensive performance spectrum and high-precision reproduction, very close to the original, make the TLM 107 universally applicable, opening up previously unknown design freedom possibilities in mixing and post-production," states the manufacturer.

For the first time, all of the microphone switch functions are controlled through a wear-resistant navigation switch. It also includes an illuminated pattern display in the chrome ring, with the Pad and Low Cut status LEDs positioned to the left and right. The switch and display are located on the rear of the microphone so as to not distract singers.
