XMOS has got its audio X-core processor into a digital headphone amplifier from Sennheiser.

“The HDVD 800 (Sennheiser’s amplifier) delivers exceptional sound performance, with low total harmonic distortion,” says Sennheiser’s Axel Grell, “we wanted to offer a range of high quality digital inputs, and to provide high sampling rates to achieve the best possible performance. Using XMOS gives the HDVD 800 AES/EBU, S/PDIF and USB inputs with 24 bit resolution and sampling rates of up to 192kHz.”

XMOS X-core processors deliver timing deterministic, predictable performance with programmable digital I/O flexibility, making them suitable for real-time applications such as digital audio interfacing as well as a range of other consumer, industrial and automotive applications.

Programmed entirely in high level C software, they give the developer the freedom to implement the control and data processing functions required, as well as the peripheral interfaces.

XMOS provides an IP library including USB Audio using USB 2.0 High Speed, S/PDIF, I2S, TDM and Ethernet, as well as signal processing functions such as digital mixing. A range of development boards and application examples are available to give engineers the ideal jump-start to their product development.
