Brushless DC motor control is Fujitsu's aim as it expands its 8FX microcontroller family.
There are nine products added to the 8bit 48pin MB95690 series, and applications in home appliances, home electronics, personal care products, power tools and office automation equipment are expected.
"Brushless DC motors are superior in terms of their noiselessness and their life expectancy," said Fujitsu. "Since such motors account for a significant percentage of a product's overall cost, there is significant demand for lower cost microcontrollers to control brushless DC motors."
On-die is a pulse generator that can output a three-phase PWM waveform for the motor.
Alongside this is 20-60kbyte of flash, a +/-2% RC main oscillator, a low-voltage detection circuit, an analogue comparator and a voltage reference, plus various timers and communications functions, said Fujitsu.
The flash is capable of 100,000 rewrite/read cycles, and features unauthorised program access protection.
Maximum clock speed is 16.25MHz.
At the same time, the firm announced six products from the 8bit 64pin MB95810 series.
These analogue-heavy devices are for "relatively high-end products requiring fine-grained system control, such as temperature sensors, light sensors and other applications that monitor a range of environmental parameters for a device", said the firm.
They have up to 60kbyte of flash, up to 12 channels of ADC, and an analogue comparator with reference voltage.
